The California State Lottery began in November of 1984. Its chief goal was to raise additional funds for education in California; therefore 84% of revenue raised by the lottery is to be given back to the public. Of these 84%, half constitutes the Lotto prizes and the remainder is invested directly in educational programs.
In total there are nine ways to win the California State Lottery; this increases the odds of winning the lottery. The overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 23. To win the jackpot players must match the main five winning numbers plus the Mega number. The amount of the cash prizes vary depending on the profits made from sales and the winners in each prize level. The cash in each prize level is divided between the winners in that level.
