How to Play the Mega Sena?

The Mega Sena lottery is a popular lottery game held in Brazil and administered by the local Brazilian Caixa Economica Federal Bank. The Mega Sena drawings are held three times every week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and on Saturdays at 8 PM.

In the Mega Sena lottery game players must guess six two-digit numbers ranging from 01 to 60. In order to win the lottery jackpot, players must match all six winning numbers from the draw, while players who match five or four of these numbers also receive prizes, of lesser value.

Mega Sena players can make a minimum bet of $1.50 with which they pick six numbers from the board of numbers from 1 to 60 in an attempt to match the six winning numbers. For further payment, players can guess anywhere up to 15 numbers, thereby increasing the odds of matching the winning numbers.

The Mega Sena drawings use two spherical cages with numbered balls in each. One cage holds balls numbered from 0 to 5 and the other holds balls numbered from 0 to 9. The numbers drawn from the first cage constitute the first digit while the numbers drawn from the second cage constitute the second digit. The drawing takes place as follows: a number is drawn from the first cage and then another number is drawn from the second cage- these two numbers placed together compose one of the six two digit numbers. The drawing continues in the same manner until six distinct two-digit numbers are produced. If the number 0 is drawn from both cages that represents the number 60 on the board.

46% of the money raised from ticket sales makes up the prize fund. Of this fund, 35% makes up the jackpot prize. When more than one player matches all six numbers correctly the jackpot is divided between all the winners. 20% of the fund is the prize for those players who matched five numbers. An additional 20% is the prize money divided between those who guessed four numbers correctly. The remaining 25% is put aside and accumulated for special draws that are held five times a year.

Mega Sena jackpot prizes are given out in lump sum. Winners have 90 days to come forward and claim their prizes. Prize money that isn’t claimed in this specified amount of time is reassigned to the Brazilian National Treasury and devoted to educational programming.

Participants in Mega Sena lottery must be at least 18 years old.
