We let you know when you win.

All winning tickets under $600 per play may be claimed at any participating USA Mega Millions Lottery retailer participating in cashing or from the Lottery. BuyLottoOnline will redeem your Mega Millions ticket and we will either credit it to your subscription or send you your winnings. We will typically have your winnings within 2 or 3 days after the draw date.

USA Mega Millions tickets with winnings of $600 or more per play may only be claimed directly from the Michigan Lottery. To claim a prize over $600 you must submit a claim form and the original ticket to the Michigan Lottery. We will send you the forms and assist you in submitting your tickets to the Michigan Lottery.

If you win the jackpot you must appear in person at the Michigan Lottery headquarters. We will make arrangements to personally hand you the ticket before you go.

All winning tickets must be claimed within 180 days from the draw date printed on the ticket.

Payment options

The USA Mega Millions annuity is paid out as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments. Each payment is 5% bigger than the previous one. The lottery used to pay the jackpot in equal instalments, but players expressed concern that the cost of living would be increasing while their payments were not. They changed to payments that increase each year to help protect winners’ lifestyle and purchasing power.

Cash option

There is also a cash option - A one-time, lump-sum payment that is equal to all the cash in the Mega Millions jackpot prize pool, usually around one third less than the advertised total.

Annual payments

If you choose the annual payments option, you'll receive the Mega Millions Plus jackpot in 29 graduated annual payments, increasing by 5% each year.

Taxes

The Michigan tax charge is 4.35% on lottery prizes over $600. If you choose Cash Value, USA Mega Millions will withhold federal tax from your winnings at the rate of 25% for US citizens and 30% for all others. If you choose the 'Annual Payment' option you will be responsible for paying federal tax on an annual basis and the rate will vary year to year. It is your responsibility to pay any taxes due in your own country and we recommend you seek professional advice on this.

Eligibility

You must be 18 or older to play the USA Mega Millions Lottery or to receive a prize, regardless of gambling laws in your own country. It is not necessary to be a US citizen or resident to play the lottery.
